Vaccination Delivery Planner: From Eligible Patients to Delivery
Plan your Shingles National Immunisation Programme (NIP) delivery with confidence. The Shingles Vaccination Delivery Planner helps you assess capacity, model delivery scenarios, and estimate how quickly you can achieve your vaccination targets.
Adverse events reporting and prescribing information can be found at the bottom of the page.
Healthcare professionals have been consulted by GSK and received honorarium.
Have you:
- Run a system search and generated your eligible patient list?
- Identified more eligible patients than expected?
- Wondered how many clinics or appointments you'll need?
- Been unsure how quickly patients can be vaccinated?
The Vaccination Delivery Planner has been designed to help you take the next step by turning your eligible patient numbers into practical delivery plans, tailored to your practice team. By combining eligible patient population data and your available workforce, the planner estimates the number of appointments required to achieve your goals, supporting confident workforce planning, resource allocation and programme delivery.
The Vaccination Delivery Planner helps you turn patient numbers into a practical delivery plan.
Using the planner, you can:
Tailor outputs to the number of eligible patients in your practice
Use the number of eligible patients identified through your searches to understand the workforce capacity and appointment volumes required to deliver vaccination within your chosen timeframe.
Understand how your existing workforce can support delivery
Estimate the number of clinics and appointments required by your workforce to vaccinate your eligible patient population within your chosen timeframe.
Plan delivery with confidence
View the vaccination activity required per month, week and working day to support implementation and monitoring of the Shingles National Immunisation Programme.
Why plan ahead?
Many eligible patients remain unvaccinated, new patients continue to become eligible, and the shingles NIP can be delivered all year round.1-5 Regular planning and monitoring can help support vaccine uptake and avoid missed vaccination opportunities.
Shingles Vaccination Delivery Planner
Use this interactive tool to plan how you can deliver your shingles vaccination goals with your available workforce. Enter your eligible patient numbers, desired timeframe and available number of vaccinators to determine the capacity required to deliver the programme. You can also model different delivery timeframes to understand what is achievable with your existing resource.
Calculate Delivery Plan
Enter the total number of eligible patients identified through your searches.
Enter the number of months in which you want to vaccinate these patients. Decimal values can be used to reflect weeks (e.g 2.5 = 2 months and 2 weeks).
Decimal values can be used to reflect part-time vaccinators (e.g. 0.5 = half of a vaccinator's available clinic time).
Your Output
To vaccinate eligible patients within months, a team of vaccinators would each need to administer approximately:
No information entered will be saved or stored by GSK. This tool provides an estimation only. Other factors outside of those inputted, for example change-over time between individuals getting their vaccinations or vaccinators taking time between vaccinations to complete documentation and/or prepare for their next vaccination are not incorporated. This tool assumes a 5-day working week.
Shingles and its complications, which can be severe and long-lasting, may result in patients repeatedly returning to the clinic, which in turn impacts time, resources and capacity.6-8
Not only does a planned, proactive approach help protect* patients from shingles, but it can also support your practice and the wider healthcare system by reducing GP appointments and hospitalisations.1,8-9
In addition, practices can receive an item of service fee per dose administered to eligible patients: £10.06 in England, £10.03 in Wales, and £10 in Northern Ireland, and practices in England have the opportunity to obtain up to 10 Quality and Outcomes Framework (QOF) points.10-14**

Next steps: Putting your delivery plan into practice
Turn your results into action.
The next step is to put your delivery plan into practice by scheduling clinics, allocating resources and inviting eligible patients for vaccination.
Using your capacity estimates to inform clinic planning can help ensure that eligible patients have the opportunity to be vaccinated, support uptake ambitions and enable earlier protection against shingles.
Effective implementation of the shingles National Immunisation Programme (NIP) could substantially reduce the burden of shingles on healthcare services.8
